At the risk of sounding like an allergy commercial; do you suffer from itchy, watery eyes, sneezing and a runny nose?  Isn’t it a coincidence that the time of year when you most want to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the outdoors, you sometimes can’t?  I love seeing the grass turn green, the trees sprouting and the flowers blooming just as much as the next guy, but I am having trouble enjoying it all due to my allergies.  Surprising enough, a tiny thing like pollen can stop up my nose, clog my ears, make my eyes water, all the while making my food taste bland. All of the senses that I use on a daily bases are under attack.  You don’t realize how much of a wonderful impact the senses have on your life until they are hindered.  This issue of SENIORityis a tribute to the senses that we sometimes take for granted, while learning how to maximize the use of these God-given gifts.

I’m sure most of you know the 5 senses are the sense of smell, touch, taste, sight and hearing.  Some may think that as we age, our quality of life declines, but we show you that this does not have to be the case. You can strengthen your touch with quilting or gardening, or enjoy a touch from another, by getting a massage.  How about giving your eyes a visual treat by visiting some local Broadway performances or touring some museum exhibits?  Who knew that you could improve your health and even alter your moods through different scents and sounds?  Lets not leave out the enjoyment of indulging your taste buds with a variety of foods and beverages.

I should give Mother Nature a thank you.  Not that I enjoy having allergies, but at least now I realize how I’ve been taking my senses for granted.  I hope this issue of SENIORity Magazine will show you how all of your senses can thrive, no matter what your age. This magazine is for you, the person that has truly earned SENIORity.
